Eminent lawyer, author and essayist, Prof. Itse Sagay, has described the death of Chief Lamidi Adedibu as the best thing to have happened to the country and Oyo State.
Adedibu, before his death was a revered People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart and acclaimed godfather of Ibadan politics.
But to Sagay, Adedibu was nothing but a proud killer and destroyer of the peoples’ peace and “he’s now going to explain his misdeeds and inhuman treatment of the people to God Almighty.”
“Adedibu decided to waste all the opportunities he had. He oppressed and killed people; he seized the political power without the authority of the people. He committed crimes and was protected by the state to continue to commit crimes, destroy properties and lives.
“He is going to answer for his crimes against the people. This is a warning to the rest of us who are in power, that one day, all is vanity; power, pride and prejudice will all come to an end and we would answer for our conduct,” he explained.
He said the only thing worth living for was a good legacy that should be left behind while there is life. This, he said, would leave a good memory.
“It is not a matter of people saying they do not want to speak evil of the dead. But if we have to speak the truth, Adedibu’s going away is good for this country, for Oyo State, for decency and good governance. People are not just being honest that this man was a major negative factor for the progress of this country and we are better without him,” he added.
He tasked every public office holders in the country to always remember that he is mortal, when carrying out actions as everybody’s powers would one day come to an end.
