The divorce suit brought by Gbenga Obasanjo and his estranged wife, Moji, before an Ikeja High Court may be resolved amicably, as the two parties have informed the court that they have reached an accord to settle the matter out of court.
Gbenga, the eldest son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo had initiated the divorce suit against his wife on the grounds of certain irreconcilable differences between them.
He also urged the court to dissolve the marriage which produced two children.
But when the parties met before Justice Elfreda Williams-Dawodu on Wednesday, they told the court that they had filed ‘terms of settlement’ at the court registry to resolve the marital crisis.

Lawyer to Moji, Mrs. Helen Ovonlien, informed the court that the future of the children of the marriage was paramount in the minds of both parties, adding that they had reached an agreement on the matter.
She said, “The business of the court today as agreed at the last adjourned date is to hear the motion to amend the petition by the petitioner.
“But we wish to inform the court that the two parties have held meetings and we have agreed to resolve the matter amicably.
“We did this in the interest of the children of the marriage between the petitioner and the respondent. We have filed ‘terms of settlement’ dated May 22, 2008.”
Confirming the development, lawyer to Gbenga, Mr. Addeh Emmako, said, “Yes, we have decided to effect amicable settlement of the matter.
“It is true that a term of settlement has been filed as stated by the respondent’s lawyer.”
Justice Williams-Dawodu later praised the lawyers to the two parties for working together to facilitate amicable settlement of the matter.
She added that the development indicated that the interest of the children of the marriage was well considered.
The judge consequently adjourned the matter till July 1.
