The office of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in the next dispensation, may have been zoned to Eket Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State.

 

Governor Godswill Akpabio who disclosed this during a town-hall meeting for the district said in the next four months, the tenure of the present Board of NDDC would expire, constitutionally, and he would recommend a son from Eket Senatorial District for the influential position.

 

Noting that it is the turn of Akwa Ibom State to produce the next MD of NDDC, Governor Akpabio said as a major oil producing area, the area deserves a prominent place in the NDDC, he also re-affirmed his administration’s commitment to be fair to all sections of the State.

He described the district as the industrial hoop of the state as it is the home of ALSCON, Independent Power Plant and Akwa Ibom International Airport. Akpabio then stressed the need for Akwa Ibom people to encourage industrialists in an effort to change the fortunes of the state.

 

He charged the in-coming local government administrations in the state to be security conscious, vowing to hold the chairmen responsible for any insecurity in their areas.

 

Earlier, the Senator representing Eket Senatorial District, Lady Eme Ufot Ekaete had commended the governor for visiting the district and for awarding contracts for the construction of roads in the area.
