The Niger Delta People Volunteer Force (NDPVF), has threatened to, as it put it, "respond accordingly", if one of its leaders , Henry Okah, is not given an open and fair trial.
Rising from its general assembly session in Port Harcourt at the weekend, the group said it would resist any attempt by the federal government to try Okah behind closed doors.
It insisted that the federal authorities must ensure Okah's trial was done in accordance with acceptable international laws and conventions.
According to the militant group " the NDPVF rejects the kangaroo secret trial of Henry Okah by the Alhaji Musa Yaradua led federal government "
It what appeared to be veiled threat the group said " the NDPVF regards this resolution as the only one it will issue on this demand, and as such, will further respond if the federal government does not accede to this demand"
" the NDPVF therefore demands the fair trial of Henry Okah in an open court in accordance with acceptable international laws and conventions" it said
The statement was signed by its president, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, and scribe, Robert Isiokpo.
