Mimiko will never withdraw case from Tribunal- LP
The Ondo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has
warned the Dr Olusegun Agagu led Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) Government in the State to perish the
thought that its flag bearer in the April 14, 2007
governorship election Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, will withdraw it case from the
tribunal.
The party which spoke on the heel of spates of rumours
being bandied about by the Agagu government in a
section of the media since Monday this week that Dr
Mimiko has decided to step down for Agagu by
withdrawing his case from the Justice Garba Nabaruma
led Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure, the
Ondo State capital.
But in a release issued in Akure by its Director of
Press, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi on Thursday, LP chided the
Agagu regime for the bare-faced lies and deceit which
it noted had become the cornerstone of the drowning
Agagu government ever since Dr Mimiko went to the
Election Petition Tribunal asking it to declare him as
the lawful winner of the April 14, 2007 in the State.“It its sad that a government whose officials,
including Agagu himself, had swore before God and man
on the pages of newspapers and on sponsored prime
television programmes that it won the said election
and one which made several underhand attempts to
subvert the popular mandate given to Dr Mimiko on
April 14, last year is now trying to get what it has
been unable to get legitimately through bare-faced
lies and deceit which had become its very second
nature.
“What happened on Monday was that Dr Olusegun Mimiko
closed his case at the Election Petition Tribunal
sitting in Akure over the petition in which he is
asking it to set aside Agagu’s phantom victory and
instead, declare him as winner having satisfied the
provisions of the Electoral Act, 2006 by winning the
majority of lawful votes cast in the election. Agagu
will in return commence the defense of his so-called
victory from Monday, April 7, 2007. So how does this
translate into Mimiko stepping down for Agagu? Except
of course in Agagu and his minions usual warped
thinking,” the party stated.
The LP therefore urged its teeming supporters home and
abroad to discountenance this “evil and wicked rumour
as it is the handiwork of the Agagu’s administration
which will like the ones before it in the recent past
fail.”
Adding:“Our case is on course and the ways and
manners in which the popular wish of the people of
Ondo State as given to Dr Mimiko on April 14 was
subverted are being exposed and very soon, the
Tribunal will rule on the matter and victory will
surely be ours because the Judiciary has proved
severally that it will not allow itself to be used by
those who flout the law with impunity.”
