MOBIL MAY LOSE 20,000 BARRELS
Mobil Producing Niger Unlimited in Ibeno may lose
about 20,000 barrels of oil during the replacement of
its burst oil pipeline at Idoho Platform.
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio who
disclosed this during inauguration of a 10 member
state Government Committee on Mobil Producing Nigeria
Idoho Plat Form Oil Spilt in Uyo said the company
installed the pipeline in 1971.
Governor Akpabio lamented that the broken pipeline has
caused oil spill which eventually has inspected
negatively on the ecosystem.
He therefore, advised people living along coastal
communities to bear with the company during its plan
to effect the damages pipeline which would affect
negatively on aquatic lives.
The governor appealed to people affected by the oil
spill to remain calm and law-making as the company was
working to pay compensation to the victims.
He warned the victims against patronizing fake
middlemen, to avoid extortion of money but asked Mobil
to ensure timely payment of compensation to the
people.
Governor Akpabio announced that government would not
charge any commission on the compensation yet to be
paid by the company to the victim.
The committee chairman, Obong Umana O. Umana thanked
the governor for the confidence reposed in them and
promise to discharge his duty creditably.
