AFENIFERE CONDEMNS ATTACK ON FASORANTI, WANTS IMPROVED
SECURITY IN YORUBALAND
Afenifere is worried by the growing incidents of
insecurity in Yorubaland which has seen bandits
inflicting terror on young and old.
The latest in this serial banditry is the attack on
the home of acting Leader of Afenifere, Chief Reuben
Fasoranti in Akure on Tuesday.
Chief Fasoranti narrated how the armed bandits invaded
his home around 9:30pm and inflicted serious injuries
on his guards and bodily harm on himself.
Some months ago, armed bandits also invaded the Apapa
home of Afenifere Leader, Senator Abraham Adesanya and
made away with valuables. Till date no headway has
been made by the police on the matter.
The former Deputy Leader of Afenifere, Chief Bola Ige
was killed in his bedroom in December 2002, as we
write this, his killers are still at large.
Several other Yoruba elders, leaders and others have
been at the receiving ends of such violent attacks
without the police being able to do anything to bring
the culprits to book.
We challenge the Ondo State Police Command to
immediately bring the assailants in the latest attack
to book.
We also call on the PDP led Government to improve the
security condition in Yorubaland and Nigeria in
general so that life will stop being short, nasty and
brutish.
The last eight and half years of PDP rule nationally
and four and half years in Yorubaland have witnessed
the worsening of incidents of poverty that over 70% of
our people now live below poverty line.
This has meant a breeding ground for social deviants,
bandits and willing tools in the hands of unscrupulous
people.
There is the urgent need to embark on massive creation
of jobs and enabling environment for enterprise so
that a lot of the young people who are being recruited
into crime will have other gainful things to do.
