CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR MESSAGE

WORK FOR THE PROGRESS OF NIGERIA IN 2008

The Federal Government wishes to felicitate with Nigerians at this season of celebrations and festivities. This season symbolizes period of love and joy for one another.

Nigerians are urged to use the period to cultivate greater love for one another and pray to God to continue to direct the affairs of the country by strengthening His wisdom in our leaders.

The Federal Government wishes to assure Nigerians that in the New Year 2008, the Government will intensify its efforts at bringing about visible and far reaching improvement in the standard of living of the people. This will be brought about through pragmatic attention to infrastructural reconstruction, institutional strengthening, power and energy overhaul as well as devoted observance of due process in all government transactions.

President’s Yar Adua’s leadership offers us Nigerians the unique opportunity to take our future into our hands and make Nigeria a truly great and prosperous nation.

The Government consequently urge all Nigerians to resolve to compliment the efforts of the Federal Government and other tiers of government by obeying the provisions of the laws of our country in all our dealings as well as support government programmes and policies to achieve resounding success. Nigerians should know that the power to transform this nation to a greater one is the responsibility of all of us collectively

The Federal Government urges the youths in the country especially in the Niger-Delta region to embrace peace and allow the present administration conducive atmosphere to commence the implementation of the Master-plan for the development of the country and the Niger-Delta region in particular. We should realize that no development can take place in a country without peace.

As Nigerians and as a people we may not be able to do anything to change our past but we are at vantage point of history to make our country’s future great. This is the promise of the present administration and just as President Umar Musa Yar Adua has been fulfilling his promises, he will certainly fulfill the promise of making this country a great nation economically, socially and politically.

We wish all Nigerians happy, peaceful and prosperous 2008.
