EFCC Arrest Ibori, Begins Journey To Prosecution
Embattled former Governor of Delta State, Mr. James Onanefe Ibori has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC few days after returning to Nigeria from his hide out in Accra Ghana.
Ibori, whose worldwide assets said to be worth $60 million from state looted funds was arrested at about 9:15 am this morning at the Kwara State Liaison office in Abuja.
The former Governor is said to have been giving protection at the Liaison office by Governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara State whose brother-in-law, one Segun Fowora manages Ibori’s real estate businesses in the United State.
The former Delta Governor who had been counseled to escape from Nigeria by the Nigerian Attorney General and Minister of Justice Mr. Michael Aondoakaa, returned to Nigeria at the weekend when news spread that he was hiding in a hotel in Ghana.
Upon his return in Nigeria, sources hinted that he was assured of adequate protection by the Attorney General while Governor Saraki made provision for him to be accommodated at the Kwara State lodge.Acting on tips, officials of the EFCC invaded the liaison office and arrested the shock looking former Governor of Delta State, marking the beginning of his trial that promises to expose the monumental fraud that characterized his eighth year rule of the oil rich State.
