SPORTSCASTER, YINKA CRAIG DIES IN THE US

Famous sports journalist and commentator, Yinka Craig is dead. He died in a US based hospital in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to a statement from the family, Craig who was diagnosed with leukemia (bone marrow cancer) few weeks ago, died at the Mayo Clinic, situated at 200 1 st St. SW Rochester in Minnesota.

Craig who was flown out of Nigeria several weeks ago, got a N5million boost from the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola to assist in his medical expenses.

Details of his condition before his death were still sketchy as at press time. When pointblanknews called the hospital, a lady who gave her name as Stacy of the communications department declined to give any information citing patient’s confidentiality.

In the statement signed by one of the deceased sons, Dr David Olamide Craig, the family said Craig passed away at about 6am. It was not clear if they were quoting Nigerian time or the central time.

According to the statement, Craig was survived by his wife, Dr Kehinde Craig, sons, Dr David Olamide Craig, and Mr Olayinka Craig, and his ‘one and only’, Miss Temilola Craig.

The statement read ‘ it is with heavy heart and joy and God’s perfect will that I announce the passing onto glory of my father, teacher, mentor and friend, Mr Olayinka Babasanya Craig, who went to be with the Lord at 6am this morning at Mayo clinic in Rochester , Minnesota. He was a pioneer radio/TV broadcaster, sports journalist extraordinaire and a national icon.
