ITWorld Int’l, NCC host forum on broadband services

The future of Broadband services in Nigeria will be laid bare August 20 at a public forum hosted by ITWorld International Magazine in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Starcomms and Ericsson. The session which is an integral part of Africa’s premier mobile wireless gathering, AfrITecc Congress 2008 which opens same day will exhaustively put on the front burner the current initiatives by stakeholders in the telecoms and mobile wireless industry to accelerate broadband connections in Nigeria.

The two-day event will run through August 21 and will be declared open by the Minister of State for Information & Communications, Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande at the Golden Gate Restaurants Ikoyi, Lagos. The highly regarded conference is the brain child of ITWorld Int’l Magazine, aimed at provoking far reaching insights into Telecoms, Internet, Computers and Courier services in Nigeria and the West African sub region. It is endorsed by the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Association of Licenced Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ALTON), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).

The year’s event will specifically devote a day to discuss broadband access, penetration and projected feasible contribution to the deepening of telecom revolution in Nigeria. The discussion will dwell on the imperative of broadband on Nigeria’s future as well as draw attention to the various efforts by service providers and regulatory authority to accelerate broadband access in the country. Already, the Nigerian Communications Commission has declared broadband access as the next revolution in the sector. Issues of connectivity, pricing, quality of service will be on the front burner at the conference as government officials, the NCC, informed stakeholders and operators make presentations.

Minister of State for Information and Communications, Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande; Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Engr. Ernest Ndukwe; Managing Director/CEO, L.M. Ericsson, Leif Edwall; Managing Director/CEO, Starcomms, Maher Qubain; Postmaster-General, Ibrahim Mori Baba will take their turns at the congress. Others are; National Presient of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Dr. Emma Ekuwem; National President of the Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Gbenga Adebayo; President Nigeria Internet Group (NIG), Lanre Ajayi and Dr Simon Emeje of the Courier Regulatory Dept (CRD).

The first edition which held last year was a huge success as it afforded industry players leverage to address important key issues that affect their industry. This year’s event promises no less with these array of distinguished speakers listed to address the audience.
