They are now Deputy Commissioners of Police respectively. The Commission consequently ordered Ribadu and all those affected to revert to their former ranks with immediate effect and reiterated its commitment to reposition the Nigerian Police and uphold the rule of law in all ramifications. Nuhu Ribadu, an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and one of the beneficiaries of Police "Special Promotion" is currently attending a course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Plateau State.
A press statement signed by the Chairman of the Police Service Commission Parry Osayande , a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police and made available to Pointblanknews.com said the reversal of the promotion of the senior police officers was the outcome of the PSC meeting which held between May 12-13, 2008.
According to the statement, the Commission resolved to uphold the rule of law and follow due process, justice and equity in all its dealings and deliberations in line with the seven point agenda of the Yar'Adua administration.
It added that the PSC at the meeting also deliberated on and resolved to protect the integrity and merit in the Nigeria Police Force by ensuring that appointments, promotions, and transfers are based on seniority, merit and equity as well as strictly established guidelines, taking cognizance of all the clearly defined disciplinary processes and transparency among other considerations. It said that the Commission "found the irregular promotion of 140 Officers without due recourse to the Police Service Commission (PSC) as very disturbing".
