The Abacha days are back as Yar’Adua’s Security Aides bar Champion, Trust,Vanguard correspondents from Presidential Villa

Security goons at the Aso Rock yesterday barred their ugly fangs as they withdrew the media accreditation of State House correspondents of three national newspapers, Daniel Idonor (Daily Champion), Ben Agande (Vanguard) and Abdulfattah Olajide (Daily Trust).

Their offence had been that they with their other colleagues had on monday  filed in stories detailing the account of the open display of insubordination against President Yar’Adua exhibited by one of his security details, called Richard.

Richard had prevented journalists from interviewing the President and his guest, the President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza, despite the Yar’Adua’s order that the press be allowed to interview the man.

\president  Yar’Adua who was not pleased that journalists were being stopped from interviewing his guest personally beckon on the reporters to come forward and conduct the interview.

The account of the incident which was carried and aired in the major media in the country obviously irked Richard who has been in the habit of embarrassing and harassing state house correspondents and photojournalists without the least provocation.

MrRichard who is  the acting Chief Detail to the President, was dismissed from the |Nigerian Army over his involvement in a coup against former maximum ruler, Sani Abacha

He is now with the department of State Security Services (SSS) after being granted presidential pardon by Olusegun Obasanjo

He served his jail term along with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who kept him in his security team after being sworn into office in 1999. His usual high handedness had not also gone down well with his subordinates.

Yar’Adua’s Special Adviser on Media, Olusegun Adeniyi, confirmed the reasons for the deaccreditation of the correspondents, said the order was given by the Chief Security Officer to the President (CSO).
