Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, who just returned from a wasteful trip to the United States , have alleged that the state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has been spying on them since they effected a change of guard in their leadership.

The members, who returned on Saturday night after a two-week so called parliamentary trip to Pennsylvania, , revealed that their vehicles and houses have been bugged.

The 26-member House which impeached the former Speaker, Mrs. Titi Oseni, on 15 May, has resolved to be extra careful in their movements and deliberations.

Sources said the lawmakers were shocked to discover that the official Ford sports utility vehicles (SUVs) bought for them by the state government had trackers on them, without their knowledge.

“How can somebody install a tracker on our vehicles and keep the SIM? If the monitoring devices were installed for us to track our vehicle if they are stolen, we should be the ones to track them ourselves, not somebody else.

“We discovered that our movements were being monitored through the trackers installed in the jeeps, and we decided to abandon them for now. Though some of us use the jeeps occasionally for social outing,” a top member of the House said.

It was gathered that immediately a new leadership emerged in the House with Hon. Tunji Egbetokun as the new Speaker and Hon. Remi Hassan as his deputy, the Gbenga Daniel administration became very jittery.

The sudden removal of Mrs. Titi Oseni, a close confidant and loyalist of Gbenga Daniel, was said to have changed the trend of politics in the state, putting the governor on his toes.

To Daniel and his kitchen cabinet, the whole game was pre-planned and being master-minded by his political enemies led by his erstwhile political godfather and former president of the country, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

It is believed that Obasanjo was making the state ungovernable for Daniel in an attempt to get back his own pound of flesh for his seeming disloyalty, particularly by supporting Dimeji Bankole to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives, against his (Obasanjo’s) wish.

Apart from Obasanjo, some other political opponents of OGD were said to have ganged-up in readiness to bankroll the State House of Assembly for his possible impeachment.

It was also l earnt that on their return from the overseas trip, they suspected that their houses had been bugged, as they were renovated in their absence.

The source further disclosed that they will hold their first sitting today at the Assembly Complex, adding that there was possibility of listing impeachable offences against the governor.

Deputy speaker, Hon. (Pastor) Remi Hassan confirmed that the house members were truly away on official assignment to U.S.A., and that the trip was sponsored by the state government, but denied any impeachment move.
