MESSY DIVORCE: PLEASE DISSOLVE THIS MARRIAGE - GBENGA OBASANJO

Moji Obasanjo

Son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Gbenga, while testifying in a Lagos High court, begged the judge to dissolve his marriage to his estranged wife Mojisola, citing irreconcilable differences.

Appearing at the resumed hearing of the divorce suit, Gbenga said the marriage between him and his wife has broken down "irretrievably."

Moji had filed a divorce suit against her husband but in his cross-petition against the suit, Gbenga alleged that his father, former President Olusegun Obasanjo slept with his wife, Moji.

Gbenga alleged in an earlier cross-petition that his father seduced his estranged wife with NNPC contracts and slept with her.

He also swore that he had grounds to suspect that his father-in-law, Otunba Alex Onabanjo, slept with his daughter and abused her sexually.

But at the resumed hearing of the case, Gbenga promised to take care of the two children that was the product of the broken marriage that was contracted in 2000 at a flamboyant wedding which had the crème de la crème in the society.

When the matter, which is before Justice E. A Williams-Daudu was called by the court registrar, the junior Obasanjo who walked with a limp was led to the witness box where he gave a brief history of the marriage, his personal information and that of his wife.

While being led in evidence by his lawyer, Mr. Emmako Addeh, he said he lived in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States before he got married.

He gave the date of his birth as November, 1971 and that of his wife as November 4, 1976.

Mrs. Obasanjo’s maiden name, he said, was Onabanjo and that she was born in New York, and they both hail from Ogun State.

He told the court that he had no objection to his wife keeping her marital name after the dissolution of the marriage.

"She can keep the name if she wants. I want every body to be happy and have access to the children. I will take care of my children, feed and clothe them whatever it takes", he said.

Under cross-examination from Mrs. Obasanjo’s lawyer, Mrs. Helen Ovonle, the former first son nearly lost his temper when he was repeatedly asked to make a firm commitment to be responsible for the welfare of the children.

The court adjourned till October 14 for both lawyers to address the court
