Gov. Murtala Nyako of Adamawa says the continuous show of love and support for his administration by the state's people prompted his desire for a second term in office.

He said this on Saturday at the PDP secretariat in Yola where he had gone to present party officials with his nomination form for the upcoming 2012 state governorship election.

``If the people of Adamawa had not shown me love and support, I won't have bothered to seek re-election,'' said Nyako, who had spoken in Hausa to his supporters who had crowded into the secretariat to cheer him.

“I have visited some states and saw the citizens eyeing their governors with contempt.

``This is why, whenever I return to Adamawa and see the love and warm welcome from the people, I feel I have every cause to thank God.

“There is peace and development in Adamawa. Things are working in Adamawa and we need to sustain the tempo.''

The governor commended the people of Adamawa, the state PDP leaderhip, the state deputy governor and the state legislature for their support and contributions towards his administration's success.

“I want to thank in particular my deputy, Mr Bala Ngilari, for his patience and understanding in working smoothly with me.

“Ngilari who is a lawyer deserves commendation for his patience and ability to cope effectively with a retired soldier like me who does not want long grammar,” he had said jokingly.

Nyako assured the people of Adamawa of more dividends of democracy if re-elected in the governorship election scheduled for Jan. 14.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nyako was expected to face a former lecturer, Dr Umar Ardo, in the contest for the party's ticket.

The state PDP primaries is scheduled for Oct. 24.
