Church member docked for allegedly defrauding pastor
A 38-year-old member of Hope-in-Christ Revival Assembly, Bankole Adenuga, was on Monday in Lagos arraigned for allegedly defrauding his pastor of more than N6 million. Adenuga was docked before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court for collecting money under false pretence.
Adenuga, who is facing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Chinalu Uwadiore, told the court that the accused allegedly committed the fraud with others still at large.
Uwadiore said that the offences were committed in September, 2009, at Orile Iganmu area of Lagos.
He said that the accused collected N6,143, 375 from Pastor Nduka Okolie under the pretext of assisting him get a Liberian Diplomatic Passport with visa.
The prosecutor further alleged that the accused by his conduct stole from his victim.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 390, 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Magistrate Demi Ajayi granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Oct. 19 for further hearing.
