The Akwa Ibom State governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has expressed appreciation to the management and staff of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna State and the Ministry of Defence, for honouring him alongside other distinguished Nigerians during the passing out parade (POP) of the 58th Regular Course Cadet of the institute.
Governor Akpabio, who was awarded a honorary doctorate degree of Management Science, said the honour was a call to all compatriots to arise for Nigeria calls, which they must obey.
He acknowledged that he and the others received the honour at a time men and women, trained by the NDA to defend the nation and citizens from external aggression, were involved in battles to defend law-abiding Nigerians from law-breaking Nigerians and at a time when the cords of brotherhood had been strained by the truama of bomb explosions.
By this honour, the governor said the management of the NDA had identified them as patriots, who not only shared with them the esprit de corps of patriotism, but also as soldiers of sorts, who were waging a war for the development and progress of the nation and coming up with policies and strategies which would feed the poor, clothe the naked and touch the sick.
“This way, we can find a way out of the quagmire of ethnicity and come out of this cesspool of violence a stronger and better country. And the time to do this is now,” Governor Akpabio said. |
