The Delta Police Command has arrested 14 suspects for kidnapping, robbery and murder offences.

Parading the suspects before newsmen in Asaba, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Mamman Tsafe, said eight of the suspects were arrested for kidnapping, five for armed robbery and one for murder.

He said that items recovered from them included vehicles, fire arms and N650,000 cash.

Tsafe said that in one of the robbery incidents which occurred at Otor Udu, near Warri, a woman was robbed of a sports utility vehicle by one Chidiebere Sunday and a serving soldier.

He added that Sunday was later arrested with the vehicle in Abuja, while the soldier was at large.

The commissioner said three other suspects were involved in a robbery operation at a filling station, during which a police team succeeded in killing a notorious robber, Nelson Igbei, wanted for the murder of a Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Agboghoroma Williams, the former Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Obiaruku.

He added that another murder suspect, a bus conductor, had confessed to the killing of his master, one Ajiri Augustine, and his driver, after robbing them of a Nissan Vennata bus registered XB 764 EKP.

Tsafe appealed to the public to assist the command with useful information on the activities of criminals in the state.

``Our major challenge now is that we have entered the ``ember'' months when criminals operate ahead of  Christmas. They want to celebrate in a big way, and therefore engage in serious crimes to get all the comfort they need during the period.''

He said all the suspects would soon be charged to court. (NAN)
