2 docked over N75 million ATM fraud

The police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned two persons, Chidi Emeh, and Daniel Okeh for allegedlydefrauding Bank PHB of N75 million.

Emeh (36) and Okeh (28) were slammed with a five-count charge of obtainingmoney under false pretence and stealing. Both accused pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Joy Ugbomaiko of an EbuteMeta MagistrateS' Court.

The prosecutor, DSP P. O. Ugwumba, said that the duo used various ATM cardsto withdraw the sum between Nov. 12, 2010 and Jan .31, 2011.

Ugwumba said that the accused carried out the act at the headquarters ofBankPHB located at No. 1, Bank PHB Crescent, off Adeyemo Alakija, Victoria Island, Lagos.

He said that the accused were found with three Skye Bank ATM cards, seven UBAcards, two BankPHB cards and one GTB card which they used to commit thecrime.

The prosecutor said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 516, 419,390, 430 and 177 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos, and were punishable withat least seven years imprisonment.

The court granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with twosureties. The case was adjourned till Oct .6 for further hearing.
