The Ondo State House of Assembly has charged security agencies in the state to step up measures to safeguard lives and property.

Mr Ajayi Dailo, the Chairman of the Assembly's Committee on Security and Communication, made the call on Thursday in Akure at a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Mr Sani Magaji, and other heads of security outfits in the state.

Dailo, who represents AkokoSouth-East constituency on the platform of the Labour Party, expressed dismay over the recent robbery incidents in Akure, the state capital.

Citing the recent killing of a lawmaker’s aide by armed robbers, Dailo urged the security outfits to initiate measures to tackle crime. The legislator assured the security agencies that government would continue to assist them to function efficiently.

`` I know that Gov. Olusegun Mimiko recently distributed some vehicles to the police and other security outfits in the state to assist them in carrying out the job of securing lives and property; we will not hesitate to do more,’’ he said.

Responding, Magaji said the security outfits in the state were collaborating to make the state crime-free. “Securing the lives and property of citizens is our principal responsibility and we are all jointly committed to doing that,’’ Magaji said.
