The Zamfara Council of the NUJ on Friday in Gusau urged the police to ensure speedy investigation of the case of alleged snatching of male genitals involving a journalist.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Malam Saminu Ibrahim, a correspondent of the National Life newspaper in Zamfara, narrowly escaped a mob attack after being accused of snatching the male genitals of one Idowu Olatunji of Skye Bank plc.

Ibrahim was said to have gone to the Gusau branch of the bank to withdraw money on Sept. 2 and had solicited the assistance of Olatunji due to the long queue of customers.

It was gathered that shortly after Ibrahim exchanged pleasantries with Olatunji, the banker cried out that his genitals was missing.

Disturbed by what it claimed as the over bearing influence of some top officials of the bank in the case, the NUJ chairman, Alhaji Mainasara Ruwandorowa, urged the police to investigate the incident and ensure justice was done to all the parties.

Ruwandorowa recalled that a similar accusation was made against a correspondent of the Triumph newspaper last year, adding that it was later found to be baseless.
