An Ebute Meta Senior Magistrates Court on Friday remanded a 23-year-old barber, Jimoh Wheto, in the Ikoyi Prisons for allegedly cutting off a teenager’s head.

The court did not take Wheto’s plea as Senior Magistrate O. O. Olatunji said that he needed the advice of the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Olatunji remanded the accused in prison custody pending the DPP’s advice. The prosecutor, Insp. Ajala Ibe, said that the accused used a machete to cut off the head of the 14-year-old apprentice with another barber following a misunderstanding on June 21.

Ibe said that the apprentice, Mr Rasheed Suleiman, died instantly. The prosecutor submitted that the alleged murder occurred at the Kaolux Shopping Plaza in Badagry.

He said that the alleged murder contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2003 and punishable with death.

The court adjourned the case till Oct. 10 for the DPP’s advice.
