Code of Conduct Bureau Serves summons on ACN Chieftain Bola Tinubu over Foreign Bank Accounts

Former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), has been summoned by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to appear before it on 21 September to answer on sundry alleged corrupt practices.

The summons, signed by the chairman of the Bureau, was dated September 6. It alleges that while Tinubu was governor of Lagos State, he contravened the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act by operating several foreign bank accounts, between 1999 and 2007.

In a response, Tinubu noted that “after years of threats, political mudslinging and media trial on the impending allegations, a formal invitation to commence trial has finally come,” and that he welcomed it in conformity with his respect for the rule of law calling on the judiciary to ensure that justice is done, he cautioned that at the CCB, “those who allege must prove.”

The ACN leader however described the allegations as unproven and politically orchestrated persecution. Tinubu’s summons dates from his second term as governor when a Joint Task Force (JTF) on corruption established by former President Olusegun Obasanjo indicted him as one of 15 governors to be arraigned under the Code of Conduct Bureau under the CCB Act.
