Gov. T. A. Orji |
Gov. Theodore Orji of Abia has called
for the establishment of the police Anti-Bomb Training Unit in the state
``in view of the security challenges across the country.''
Orji made the call on Wednesday in Umuahia when a delegation of the
Anti-Bomb Squad Unit, Force Headquarters, led by Mr Ambrose
Aisabor, paid him a courtesy visit.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Emeka Ananaba,
said that the current security situation made it expedient to establish the
outfit in the state.
He said that the state government would be willing to fund the establishment
of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit, adding that the Nigeria Police
Force only needed to give the go ahead for the project.
Orji said that the protection of lives and property of residents of the state was
prominent on the state government's agenda.
He commended the unit for the foresights in making efforts to nip the security
challenges facing the country in the bud.
Orji said that the state was prepared to tackle any eventuality of bomb related
cases that might crop up.
Earlier, Aisabor had said that the delegation was in the state on the mandate
of the Inspector General of Police to evaluate the current security challenges
across the country.
He said that government at all levels, including the international community,
were not happy with the security challenges facing the country.
He urged stakeholders to devise proactive measures to help the police in
addressing the problem of bombing, which had become a major security
threat in the country. (NAN) |
