Governor Olusegun Agagu |
The Labour Party, Ondo State, has condemned the recent
press conference granted by Chief Segun Adegoke, the
Political Adviser to Governor Olusegun Agagu, in
which he accused the Party and its gubernatorial
candidate in the April 14 election, Dr Olusegun
Mimiko, of every conceivable crime saying that the
development is distractive.
In a release issued by its Director of Press on
Monday, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, LP insisted that
Adegoke’s statements was meant to lay the ground for
the series of violence against its members which
started earnestly immediate after he addressed the
press penultimate Thursday as elucidated by the
attacks on its Legal team.
“Labour Party condemns in the strongest terms this
latest act in the now well-known proclivity of Agagu
and his team for Campaign-after-Election. Any
perceptive observer would know that the intention is,
as usual, less than honourable, the motive outrightly
sinister and the objective wholly distractive. But
more importantly, in line with the way of the Agagu
government, the Press Statement presages the imminence
of some satanic courses of action on the part of the
government, which full import Nigerians will begin to
see in no time, except these purveyors of evil are
stopped in their track.
According to Olabisi, when Adegoke addressed Press in
Akure on the supposed intention of the LP to disturb
the peace of the State, LP got information that the
action was a prelude to unleashing a horde of PDP
thugs adorned with LP vests on the State.“The Agagu government had earlier gone to produce the
vests at a location in Lagos. The idea was to give the
impression that the LP was unruly and violent and did
not want the Election Petition Tribunal to work. We
quickly alerted the security forces on this discovery
and the plan of the government to attack our leaders
and members of our legal team. We had thought that was
enough to dissuade the State Government from its
sinister moves, the LP spokesman stated adding:“Significantly, less than 42 hours after we cried out
on these satanic plans, the country home of the head
of the Mimiko legal team, Chief Wole Olanipekun was
burnt down at Ikere-Ekiti, a distance of less than 30
minutes from Akure. During the same week, Dr. Olumide
Ayeni, a lawyer holding the brief of Olanipekun, was
trailed to his hotel room in Akure by assassins and
only managed to escape by the grace of God. In company
of another colleague of his on the legal team,
Barrister Remi Olatubora, Dr. Ayeni was again waylaid
by another team of hooded assassins on their way from
Abuja on Friday 17th. They escaped death by the
whiskers.”

According to Olabisi, in the warped imagination of
Agagu’s Political Adviser, “any crime committed by any
person identifiable with Ondo State, no matter how
tangentially, is now either sponsored, traceable or
done on behalf of the LP and its gubernatorial
candidate! It no longer matters whether such
infractions took place in locations as far away as
Oshogbo, Lagos or wherever. The question that comes to
mind on this is, who then voted for Agagu to earn him
the landslide victory he claims he won if every Ondo
State citizen or any person connected to Ondo State
all now act on behalf of the LP and Dr Mimiko? What
additional evidence of who in the State is the midwife
of violence does anybody require in the context in
which key aides of Governor Agagu, including Personal
Assistants, Chairmen of parastatals and Chairmen of
Local Government, were the ones apprehended across the
State by security agencies before, during and after
the April elections?”
While noting that LP was not in the least bothered by
Adegoke’s tirades as it were, Olabisi posited that the it was an admission of desperation on the part of
Agagu “who for obvious reasons is becoming more
uncomfortable as the day of decision draws nearer at
the Election Petition Tribunal. It is one more huge
effort on the part of the sinking team at distracting
everybody.”
To him one would have thought that Adegoke as a lawyer
ought to have been sensitive to the libelous
implications of the Agagu write-up to which he
nevertheless appended his signature. “What does one expect of a man who less than four
years ago had this to say of his current paymaster:“Apart from the fact that Dr. Agagu is naturally
repulsive and insensitive to the plight and lot of
fellow human beings, he has the ill-fate of bad things
taking place wherever and whenever he serves in any
public office … Behaviourally, Dr Agagu can be
deceptive and chameleonic, a man of several faces; he
is very generous with cheers and laughter but beneath
his inner-most heart is malice, animosity,
self-aggrandizement, egoistic tendencies, care-free
attitude and reckless posture toward humanity; a
silent reveler, even in the face of pressing official
duties”.
The LP, Olabisi however, noted, would for the
umpteenth time, like to appeal to Governor Agagu to
allow the Election Petitions Tribunal to do its work.“Rather than wasting Ondo State funds (by his own
admission, Fourteen Billion Naira in the last three
months) on puerile propaganda and his
Campaign-after-Election, he should await the judgment
of the Tribunal. We also would like to seize this
opportunity to call on the security forces to pay more
attention to Ondo State especially with this latest
outing of the Agagu government as similar efforts in
the past have proven to be but a carefully
orchestrated effort to justify subsequent satanic
acts.”
