Rickey Tarfa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN and foremost lawyer representing Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in his many and varied legal battles on Saturday evening in Lagos came under a gun attack on a busy Lagos road. Although the motive of the attack is yet to be established, assassination is suspected. Another high profile member of the Atiku legal team, Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) who is also handling the brief of the ANPP Candidate, Senator Abiola AJimobi in the Oyo State Governorship election was last month visited at home by gun-wielding marauders offering N500,000 to house-helps to be shown the lawyer’s bedroom.

On the way home to Victoria Garden City, VGC Lekki, Lagos Island at about 9:00P.M on Saturday, Rickey accompanied by his wife and children ran into a traffic hold-up. The go-slow was as a result of an ongoing road rehabilitation work. At that stage, a man got off the back seat of a motor-cycle and made for Rickey’s Prado Jeep. He brought out a gun and fired at the driver (Rickey) through his door, and then moved slightly to the front and fired again shattering the wind screen. Pellets of the wind screen attacked the lawyer and all members of the family who sustained injuries in varying degrees.

Apparently believing that the deed had been done, the attacker disappeared in the ensuing melee. He left the scene without making a demand. Of them all, Rickey sustained the most injury with cuts on his face and both hands. He is now receiving treatment at an Ikeja hospital as out-patient after his wounds were stitched and bandaged.

The former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, expressed shock and disbelief over the incident. He wished the family a quick recovery.
