Enahoro To Present Alternative Constitution To Yar'Adua

In pursuance of the ongoing advocacy of PRONACO to entrench its newly launched people’s constitution as the main legal document governing the country, the leadership of the Peoples National Conference has decided to present the Peoples alternative constitution to the new administration in the country.

This becomes imperative following the court case instituted by Enahoro and four others against the federal government last month; praying the court to declare a referendum or a Sovereign conference in determining the popularity and acceptability of both the 1999 constitution and the new Peoples constitution given the obvious flaws in the 1999 constitution.

The PNC delegation which is set to commence its advocacy next week will be led by Chief Anthony Enahoro (CFR). Those officials of government who are supposed to receive the peoples constitution includes; the President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Governors and Speakers of State Houses of Assembly, members of the diplomatic corps, Traditional rulers amongst others.

The advocacy which is scheduled to first commence at the state level is expected to be led by leaders of the people’s national conference in various states of the federation. Advance copies of the constitution are already been dispatched to various locations by the secretariat of the PNC to enable other parties particularly, government study the provisions of the new constitution before hand.

Meanwhile, due to Enahoro’s tight schedule arising from this advocacy program and the 2007 June 12 anniversary celebration organized by the June 12 Coalition billed to be chaired by the octogenarian statesman, the proposed parley of leaders of thought and stakeholders earlier billed for next week Tuesday has now been shifted till further notice.
