Action Congress, AC Senatorial candidate for Adamawa
South in the April 21 general elections, Dr Maxwell
Gidado has challenged the declaration of the PDP
candidate, Mrs Grace Folashade Bent as the winner in
the election.
Also joined as co defendants at the State elections
petitions tribunal are the PDP, INEC, its resident
electoral commissioner in Adamawa state and
INEC's returning officer for the Senatorial
election and four INEC local government presiding and
returning officers of Demsa, Lamurde, Mayo-Belwa and
Guyuk Local Government Councils in the state.
Dr Gidado, in his petition urged the tribunal to
nullify the election of the PDP candidate, Mrs
Folashade Bent because she was not qualified to
contest the said election on the ground that she is
not an indigene of the senatorial district.
According to Dr Gidado, Mrs Folashade Bent did not
secure the highest number of valid and lawful votes
cast in the election, adding that the election was
marred by multiple voting, under aged voting, stuffing
of ballot boxes and inducement of voters among others.
The AC candidate then asked the tribunal to declare
him as winner of the election or in the alternative
order INEC to conduct fresh election on the basis of
the irregularities and non compliance with the
provisions of the 2006 electoral act.
