Nigeria's Governor-Elect Promises To Reduce Hostage Taking In Niger-Delta

Governor-elect of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has promised to end hostilities in the Niger-Delta region as soon as he assumes office.

He said job creation and youth empowerment will be a cardinal focus of his administration in the next six months.

Uduaghan who is known to have taking his campaign to the militants zone during his campaign said the situation has become embarrassing that he intends to make it a priority issue within the next six month of his administration.

As part of plans to achieve the end to hostilities, Dr. Uduaghan told Pointblanknews in a brief phone chat that already a committee has been created to meet with the militants and negotiate with them with a view of reaching an agreement that will stand the test of time.

Also, he added that the unemployed youths in the state who are most prone to becoming militants will be offered the job of policing all oil pipelines in the State.

“There job will be mainly to secure the oil pipelines from being vandalized. They will be paid and I believe this will ease the tension in the area and reduce kidnappings,” the Governor said.

Uduaghan noted that the lack of jobs for the Niger Delta youths has been largely responsible for the problems in the area, stressing that “my administration will deeply look into this and make sure we accommodate them so that we can enjoy peace in our state and region.”
