The British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair, on Thursday, expressed his country‘s readiness to work with the President-elect, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
In a letter to President Olusegun Obasanjo, Blair added that his country would support the continuation of Obasanjo‘s reform program by Yar‘Adua.
A statement from the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Mrs. Oluremi Oyo, said Blair was eager to meet with Yar‘Adua immediately he assumed office.
Declaring Britain’s readiness to work with Yar‘Adua, Blair said he was looking forward to ”an early meeting” with Nigeria‘s incoming President ”to begin our discussion on future cooperation.”
He also spelt out the areas the British Government intended to engage the incoming administration.
The British PM said, “We are keen to work with the new administration on reform and governance, democracy, development and other areas of cooperation which we have developed over the last eight years.”
Blair, who is on his way out of office after two terms as Prime Minister, commended Obasanjo for his achievements in office.
