RINGIM ENRAGED OVER SACK, WALKS OUT ON NEW IGP …My Administration Will Be Better-Abubakar
There was a mild drama at the Louis Edet House of Nigeria Police Force in Abuja when the sacked Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hafiz Ringim told Journalists during his handing over that he was not sacked and then walked out on his successor, Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar.
This is even as new IGP urged Nigerians to have confidence in him adding that his administration will be far better than that of his predecessors.
Ringim, who came in the conference room of the IGP alongside his successor, said he voluntarily retired from the police.
It took the shocked new IGP M.D Abubakar time to control the crowd and Journalists who have been patiently waiting for over six hours.
Ringim, had during his rage explained that his sudden exit was informed by his request to the Presidency that he need to commence his retirement leave effective from Match 31 2012.
" I see the need to appoint an acting IGP to occupy my office. The Secretary General of the Federation (SGF) Senator Anyim Pius Anyim approved and made recommendation for the appointment of M.D Abubakar in acting capacity,” Ringim said.
" Indeed, during my tenure as IGP I did creditably well by taking the Police to an enviable level. We did so excellent.
" Based on this recommendation, all my management team which comprises all the six Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGs) have to go with me", the Sacked IGP said.
In his speech, Acting Inspector General of Police, MD Abubakar noted, "I am aware of the challenges of the task ahead.
" But I am equal to the task because I am not a stranger to these things.
" My administration is going to be different from all the past Police leadership administration.
" The need to fight crime and criminality in the country, the need to fight corruption and indiscipline in the Police is my major task. This administration is not going to be business as usual.
" There is going to be major reorganization in the police. Postings of policemen to any duty will be based on merit and the ability to deliver.
" I need the cooperation of all including the media to help us succeed. Nigeria is bigger than any individual, therefore, we must join hands to salvage our nation", he noted.
