ATIKU, JIBRIL, NYAKO: THE BREAKAGE OF FULANI HEGEMONY
Some years ago, these three-some people Atiku
Abubakar, Jibril Aminu and Murtala Nyako bestrode the
landscape of this country, and that of Adamawa as
triplets born of the same parents. They are of the
same tribal extraction of Fulanis and what affects one
of them, also affects the others. But, today, all this
is byegone and the hegemony, they tried all the years
either in their private or official capacity to
sustained has now, been broken down.
No any amount of reconciliation now, or thereafter can
bend these personalities to once again come to wined
and
dined together. This is because treachery, sycophancy
and deceitfulness has came in between the three
people, who are all Fulanis and had over the years
been
trying to foist and at the same time, sustained the
Fulani hegemony in Adamawa.
Before, whenever there is something worth doing for
the sake of the Fulanis, these three musketeers are in
the forefront in the struggle to champion the cause of
the Fulanis. But, as of today, there is no possible
way(s) for these three people to come together and
stay under one umbrella to champion the cause of their
brethrens of the Fulani extraction.
Kaltu-Pulaku which is quite synonomous with the
Fulanis or better known as Fulbe is no longer there
between these three gentlemen any more. This is
because the link have broken down due to the pursuance
of their personal interest against the overall
interest of the Fulanis.
Over the years, these men are in the forefront in the
struggle to emacipate the Fulanis from the clutches of
repression in the hands of the tiny minorities but,
all has gone with the winds because, the gentlemen are
not actually in true agreement in the crusade to made
their fellow Fulanis to be a force to reckoned with in
the scheme of things in Adamawa State as a whole.
It has become public, that today in Adamawa State, one
see a true Fulani insulting his fellow Fulani man
simply because he belong to the political grouping of
Jibril Aminu, Murtala Nyako or Atiku Abubakar.
What really made it possible is the desire of each of
these men in trying to made the carricature of each of
them because of their political difference and the
Fulanis have become the laughing stock of the other
minority tribes of the state.
In the early pre and post independence Nigeria, the
Fulanis in Adamawa are virtually in control of every
thing especially the main stream civil service. But,
then today, the Fulanis are fast losing out to the
inreconciliable differences of the three musketeers of
the Fulani extraction and it is based on trying to
protect their personal against the interest of the
larger Fulanis.
What was obtainable today, among the Fulani elites is
self-centred and not pursuance to protect and defend
the larger Fulani population of Adamawa State.
The only surviving grace for these elites, that are
really shouting as if, they are so serious in the
protection of their brothers is mainly half of the
Fulanis especially the Nomadic Fulanis are not well
educated to comprehend the fact, that these elites are
only using them for their personal aggrandisement.
It is quite ironical for the these three Fulani elites
to pave way for the breakage of the Fulani hegemony in
Adamawa State.
These personalities could have traded so softly on the
turf by refocusing their minds, that if, they did not
come together as the Fulanis used to be or do before,
division may easily crept in and cause a very
grievious havoc not only to themselves but, the Fulani
race as a whole as it has done now.
There is a saying in Fulfude : KAUTAL HORE" literally
means in unity we stand. But, the irony is that these
gentlemen has threw it to the dogs and that was what
brought about the grouping of each one of them and
their followers, who are predominantly Fulanis.
