How Globacom Rules The World Of Telecommunications @ Four
How fast time runs. How splendid, Globacom, the idea Otunba Mike Adenuga saw four years ago has helped Nigerian telecommunications operations in no little ways. He deserves kudos because if he were a politician, he may had ferried the idea to another country, just the same way we have read corrupt government officials fiery our money, their loot, into foreign countries, thereby resulting to the impoverishment of the citizenry.
I believe that one thing that has brought smiles to the management of Globacom and its subscribers is the achievement that Globacom has made within four years in the telecommunications operations.
Like many entrepreneurial industries that suffer lose, I am yet to believe that Globacom has entertained fear of such since its emergence in August 29, 2003. Rather, it is of the view of new things to be achieved, being optimistic that what it has achieved so far is the beginning of success, thereby emboldening the stoic spirit of its subscribers on high-ranked service.
By August 29, 2007, Globacom would be four years old. Imagine what a boy of four could achieve in life! But the story is not the same with the four-year Globacom. It has filed and rolled-out activities for the celebration for its fourth birthday, with strong passion and affirmative commitment, in Lagos at a special media dinner.
With the success story of Globacom, within this short period, it has grown from an ordinary GSM company, to a giant company that its biography cannot contain in a 1000 page book. With total solution, Globacom is on the ebullient side to still empower its over 15 million subscribers in the next three weeks by rolling out its fixed services in Abuja and Lagos. This would follow the completion of the topic fibre laying in most parts of the country.
Globacom’s laying of its submarine cables is almost completed. This cable runs from London to Nigeria. And the cable has reached Senegal. It would soon see the shores of Nigeria.
Globacom has acquired the Third Generation project license, otherwise called 3G, which is the advanced technology of the 2.5G network, this is currently used by telecommunications operators in Nigeria.
The duty of the 3G is to promote telecommunications service with capability for seamless transmission. It will as well receive high quality sound, data and picture messages by fixed and fast-moving subscribers.
Before the August 29, Globacom has significantly made some people Glo with pride and they are now ruling their world. This followed the raffle draw which is now known and regarded as the first of many raffle-draws since 2001, for media practitioners, when GSM was introduced in Nigeria. Three journalists went home with prizes, a Honda Civic car, a plasma television as second prize and a laptop as third prize.
The journalists are editor of Soccer Star, Mr. Kunle Solaji, who won the star prize. Mr. Enyinna Nwagwu, publisher of IT World magazine, who won the second prize, and a photojournalist, Mr. Ben Uwalaka with Leadership newspapers, who won the third prize.
Within this four years of operations there are a lot feats Globacom has achieved that could not be possibly stated here because of space. I don’t think that the company owes Nigeria much duty now, but I think that Nigerians owe it great duty. And that is supporting Globacom to a higher stardom through corporations and relational activities. Because, Globacom has made us glo with pride many a time and we are now ruling our world.
