Two-Party: NASS about striking right chord

For the first time, and with the view held by most Nigerians, the National Assembly would be striking a right chord if they vote as it looks, overwhelmingly, for a two-party system. The members should ignore the pressure being mounted on them by most of the State governors who seem to prefer the present position.  

It is not only in the interest of the nation that a two-party or at most three-party of healthy nature should be but also it will provide the much needed checks and balances in our polity and governance. And for those seeking elective offices, including the lawmakers themselves, who are the main representative of the masses, it would be lighter and easier for them to get elected or re-elected without worshipping any god-father.  

The canvassed system should be seen by all and sundry as the ideal thing for Nigeria, considering that Professor Iwu’s INEC may have been only there to cause confusion hence it continued registering more political parties unannounced.

Let us take a cue from what good governance and good election is all about in developed or fast developing nations of the world. If the National Assembly members vote ‘yes’ for a two-party or three-party system, the applause and recognition that would accrue to them, would be enormous as they would be the toasts of the masses.
